How to make your own newspaper seedling pots

Gardeners can start off their Edible Garden project at home (as for me, that will be at our balcony). You can choose a variety of seeds to start with – chilly seeds will be a good bet . Try to plant them in these small, simple pots. They are easy to make, and they’re biodegradable too! and the best part, at extremely low in cost. Try it!

newspaperpot1Start with a section of newspaper.
newspaperpot3Cut it in half. Cut several layers at once to save time, but use only one sheet/single layer per pot.
newspaperpot2Cut it in half again, making the section into quarters.
newspaperpot4Take a small round container, like a spice jar, and roll the paper around it, leaving about an inch overhang at one end where you will fold it in for the bottom. Don’t roll too tight or it will be too hard to get the jar out later.
newspaperpot5Fold the bottom in, as if you were wrapping a present.
newspaperpot6Tape the bottom shut. If you can, use masking tape or, if it’s available in your country, biodegradable cellophane tape.
newspaperpot81Take out the jar. Turning it right side up, fold in the edges all around the top.
newspaperpot91Then fold it in again for stability and a shorter pot.
