Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) Kepong
Introduction
Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) located 16km northwest of Kuala Lumpur, offers 1,528 hectare forest ecosystems, gardens, arboreta and wetlands with various trails (both tarmac and nature) scattered all around the Institute. The operation hour from Monday to Sunday is at 7am and closes at 7pm, whilst avid joggers start as early as 5 am, enjoying the pristine freshness of the morning air.
Running Trails
There are multiple jogging/running trails there, some are marked while others are not. There are few nature trails such as Keruing Nature Trail, Salleh Nature Trail and Enkabang Trail but you may wish to try the self-claimed Cheramiche’s Trail which offers you a bit of a challenge through a shady, damp route. To get there, start from the mosque using the Rover Track. Follow the track until you reach the pump house. Right after the pump house you will find a gate leading to an unpaved road. Just follow the water pipeline that brings you to the end of the road where you will find a small dam. Since the track seems barely used, it is safe to take extra caution. One may continue heading back to the mosque via the tarmac road right after heading down from the pump house or use the same trail that brings you back to the starting point. The whole trail took about an hour and the half to complete (mosque-dam-mosque) and covers about 11 km in distance.
For a tarmac route, from the mosque, one may proceed to Jalan Jelutong then onto Jalan Bukit Watson, Jalan Kapur and Jalan FRIM, passing by the school and back to the starting point. Or you may wish to make a loop using Jalan Foxworthy or simply enjoy picnicking by the small waterfall along the way. The Field and Perah Campsite can be a great place for activities such as family day and sporting events while a multifunctional hall nearby cater for events such as wedding receptions. A 30m high-Canopy Walk could offer an exciting experience off-the-ground whilst the Institute slowly gaining popularity for its scenic nature and wedding photography.
